The Well Runs Dry

My heart overflowed with love

Ready to gush into the wells of your soul

That had been emptied by the tourists just passing through

In the midst of your drought

My love rained down

Like a spring day in may

Replenishing your dried out reservoir

Still the sight seers kept comping

Only stopping for a drink

Before they went rushing

To the next spring they could find

And just like the seasons

My rain would return

To refill your well

Before it dried out

Hoping one day you would learn

To give your water to those who brought gifts in return

Yet the cycle continued

Of travelers passing through

Always taking from your well

It felt like deja vu

Then one day I had nothing to give

Not a single drop

Because I gave it all to you

And you fed it to them
